The Moscow Mule is the hottest summer cocktail to hit the Ottawa bar scene. If you haven’t tried it yet, you don’t know what you’re missing!

It’s been around since the 1940s but it’s been making a comeback, big time. And why not? This classic cocktail is a wonderful balance of fizz, tart, sweet and spice.

It’s recognized by the copper mug it’s served in. It comes that way because a chilled copper mug keeps the drink really cold. Just make sure the mug is copper on the outside only because the reaction of the drink and the copper can be poisonous (most Moscow Mule mugs today are lined, so there’s little to fear).

Traditionally, a Moscow Mule is made with vodka, ginger beer — which is not the same as ginger ale — and fresh lime juice. Today they often come with modern twists, like cucumber or peach.
