The Number One Hike Team in Canada belongs to …The Hospice at May Court.
Despite the iffy skies and gentle rains, the skies did clear for the 6th annual Hike for Hospice. The Hospice welcomed both old and new friends as nearly 300 hikers raised over $63,000 (and still counting) for the Hospice. Hospice Chair, Martha Nixon graciously welcomed everyone and introduced hospice supporter and Ottawa Centre MP, Paul Dewar who described what happens at the Hospice as "organized compassion" and said that the model created by The Hospice at May Court should be exported across the country. Before the Hike, Erin Dubé from Makin' Moves dance studio warmed up the crowd with some hip hop moves. The ribbon was officially cut by the Hike Platinum sponsor Tracy Arnett and Paul Dewar. Then, the crowd of kids, parents, grandparent and even a few dogs were off for a 5 KM hike through Old Ottawa South, up Echo Drive to the Pretoria Bridge and back to the Hospice. There they were greeted by a bevy of belly dancers and a drumming group. The event ended with a picnic provided by The Red Apron and sounds from a Dixieland band.
The Hospice at May Court’s is proud to have the number one pledge collecting team in Canada – Glebe Pharmasave Apothecary that brought in $8,550.23; as well as two individual hikers that made the country’s top ten pledge collectors; they are Claudia McKeen at #2 in Canada with $5,486.23 and Hospice Board Chair, Martha Nixon at #10 with $2,695 collected. You can still support the Hospice’s fundraising efforts by sponsoring our team or other individual hikers registered online by visiting hikeforhospice.com. Thank you to all those who made The Hike the wonderful success that it was! See you next year!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Mayfair Theatre is located in the neighbourhood of Old Ottawa South, close to the corner of Bank Street and Sunnyside Avenue. The theatre looks much the same as it did when it first opened its doors on December 5, 1932. In 1984, the theatre changed ownership and it now has the latest digital sound system with surround speakers, upgraded seats, box office, candy bar and projection equipment. The auditorium retains its original charm of the 1930s. Every so often, Tracy Arnett Realty Ltd. hosts a "Movie at the Mayfair" free of charge for the community and valued clients. Some of the movies are hosted to help raise funds and awareness for local charities and others are simply to take the time to relax with the family and enjoy a really good show.
